Admitted in 1985, Andrew has been consistently ranked as a leading environmental and planning lawyer in various Australian, regional and global directories.
Before establishing Beatty Legal in 2012, Andrew had been a senior partner of three large law firms:
- Allen Allen & Hemsley (Sydney) 1993 – 1999
- Mallesons Stephen Jacques (Melbourne & Sydney) 1999 – 2006
- Baker & McKenzie (Sydney) 2006 – 2012
Andrew’s practice has focused on dispute resolution and advisory work for clients in the property, resources, energy and finance sectors.
Andrew is admitted in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Jennifer has over 20 years’ experience in environment and planning law, assisting industry, developers and government to manage environment incidents and on-going compliance, obtain development consents and environmental licences and acquire and divest industrial and contaminated land.
Jennifer is widely recognised as a leading advisor to the waste industry due to her in-depth understanding of issues unique to that sector.
Jennifer was a partner at Baker McKenzie before joining Beatty Legal. She is ranked in a number of directories as a leading environmental lawyer.
Ballanda has over 15 years’ experience advising on the full spectrum of environment, planning and valuation law.
She has advised federal, state and local government bodies as well major corporates in a range of sectors. She has particular expertise in the assessment of major projects, climate change, coastal risk and heritage matters.
Ballanda was a Senior Associate at Clayton Utz before joining Beatty Legal in 2013.
Timothy has worked on the firm’s wide range of environmental, planning and compulsory acquisition matters since his admission in 2017.
He acts for individuals, large businesses and government clients alike, with particular experience in litigation.
Timothy’s practice has included, in particular, large projects in coastal management, government acquisition of business premises and judicial review proceedings.
Timothy holds a Bachelor of Arts (Media)/Bachelor of Laws double degree with Honours from Macquarie University.
Sebastian was admitted in 2019 having previously worked as a Tipstaff in the New South Wales Supreme Court.
He has experiencing working across a range of practice areas, both commercial and litigious, in the property and construction industries at a top tier firm.
Sebastian’s practice has involved a particular focus on planning and development advice and appeals, together with compulsory acquisitions and other administrative litigation.
Sebastian holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours from Macquarie University, and is close to completion of a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne.
Stephanie has advised on a range of valuation, planning and environmental matters since 2018. She has particular experience advising in relation to compulsory acquisition and environmental compliance.
Stephanie has also advised clients in relation to Land and Environment Court proceedings, especially in Class 1 and Class 3 proceedings.
Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Social Sciences double degree from the University of Adelaide. She was admitted to the Supreme Court of South Australia in April 2018 and also holds a NSW Practicing Certificate.
Joshua is the newest member of the firm having completed his Practical Legal Training with us and being admitted to practice in New South Wales at the end of 2020.
Joshua has a keen interest in Environmental Law and has worked on valuation, planning and environmental matters since joining the firm.
Joshua holds a Bachelor of International Studies (International Relations)/Bachelor of Laws dual degree from the University of New South Wales.
Amelia Smillie joined Beatty Legal in 2019. She is completing a combined Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts, with a major in Criminology, at Macquarie University.
Amelia is passionate about social justice and environmental sustainability. Her experience includes paralegal support in general practice law. Amelia works part-time, providing administrative and research support to our solicitors.
As CEO, Erin is responsible for the strategic direction of the firm, as well as the day-to-day management of the practice. Erin’s experience in the legal industry includes research and executive support roles in both boutique and major international firms.
Erin holds a Bachelor of International and Global Studies from the University of Sydney.
